Greece: João Mário’s AEK wins derby at Panathinaikos’ home ground

AEK Athens, featuring João Mário (formerly of Benfica) and Filipe Relvas (formerly of Vitória de Guimarães), won the Athens derby (3-2) at Panathinaikos’ home ground, moving closer to the top of the table. Portuguese player Renato Sanches was left out of the home team’s squad due to injury.

Luka Jovic, the Croatian former Real Madrid player, was the star of the match with a hat-trick (16th minute, 45+2nd minute, and 90+3rd minute). For Panathinaikos, Rui Vitória’s former team, now coached by Rafa Benítez, Tetê (71st minute) and Filip Djuricic (90th minute) scored. 

Olympiakos visited and won (1-0) against Panetolikos and remains leader of the Greek League. For the away team, the Portuguese players Costinha, Gelson Martins and Diogo Nascimento were starters. Rúben Vezo was an unused substitute. Roman Yaremchuk, formerly of Benfica, also started the match.

Ayoub Kaabi, a Moroccan forward, scored the winning goal in the second half (70th minute).

In another game, PAOK beat Levadiakos 3-2 . Soualiho Meité, formerly of Benfica, started for PAOK and received a straight red card in the 77th minute.

Magomed Ozdoev’s brace (45th and 55th minutes) and Giorgos Giakoumakis’ goal (90th minute) gave PAOK the victory. Ioannis Kosti (10th minute) and Benjamin Verbic (50th minute) scored for Levadiakos.

With these results, Olympiakos leads the Greek League with 31 points. PAOK is second with 29, and AEK completes the podium with 28 points. Panathinaikos is in sixth position with 18 points.
