Maxi Araújo recalls the difficult childhood he faced, growing up in a poor neighborhood in Uruguay, in Cerrito de la Victoria, and how he learned from all the adversities he encountered along the way.
In an interview with “Revista Centenario,” the Sporting winger confesses that food was a sensitive “topic,” and that there were times when Maxi Araújo and his family had “very bad” experiences.
“Remembering the time I spent in Cerrito de la Victoria makes me think about everything we went through. The issue of food was very difficult. My mother had to take care of us, and when she went to work, it was my older sister who took on that role. We went through some very hard times,” she began by saying.
“I left many friends in the neighborhood and I still see them when I go there. It taught me everything I am today and I knew how to make the best of the situation. I know that God was always by our side and we managed to move forward,” he added.
Furthermore, Maxi Araújo highlighted Marcelo Bielsa as the coach who most influenced him, especially for the intensity that helped him grow as a player, adapting to various challenges, as is the case with Sporting.
“Marcelo Bielsa, without a doubt (the coach who influenced him the most). He always pushed me to the limit, he was very intense and was always on top of us correcting us. It’s good because it keeps us alert and now that I’m at Sporting, I always give my all in every game, it was very good for me,” he confessed.
