FIGURE: Vangelis Pavlidis
The Greek striker had a great night, making the most of his performance. In the first half, he opened the scoring in the 36th minute with a crucial goal, given that the game wasn’t easy for Benfica. In the second half, he finished off a high ball recovery to make it 2-0 and completed his hat-trick after a pass from Gilberto Batista in the 70th minute. While Luis Suárez had temporarily taken the lead in the scoring charts with a brace against AVS, the Greek responded and is once again the top scorer, now with 13 goals, two more than the Colombian from Sporting.
MOMENT: Aursnes and a new offer that deserves a tip of the hat (76m)
Six minutes after Gilberto Batista set up Pavlidis for the 3-0, Aursnes didn’t refuse another offer and, after a wild pass from goalkeeper André Ferreira, chipped the ball over the goalkeeper for the 4-0 lead in the 76th minute. The ball even hit the post before going in. There was no longer any doubt about the scoreline, and the Norwegian ended up scoring the most beautiful goal of the night.
OTHER HIGHLIGHTS
Aursnes: a beautiful finish to seal the scoreline, after having already provided two assists for Pavlidis’ first two goals.
Otamendi: He didn’t have a particularly eventful night, but he provided the necessary security in Benfica’s back line. He made a couple of important clearances in the defensive area.
André Ferreira and Gilberto Batista: a game to forget for Moreirense in their defensive sector. And also for the Moreirense goalkeeper and centre-back, whose mistakes led to Benfica’s last two goals.
