Rebirth! After a year, Gabriel Jesus scores again and Arsenal win big in the Premier League.

Arsenal finish the year leading the national league; Aston Villa remain in third place.

For those who believed that football had lost its rhythm at the end of the year, the  Premier League  proved otherwise, especially for the Brazilians in the English elite. The 19th round began this Tuesday (30) as the last of 2025, but became historic for Gabriel Jesus , who had long sought to regain prominence at the highest level. The Brazilian scored the fourth goal in Arsenal ‘s 4-1 victory over Aston Villa , in a match held at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal finished the year at the top of the table with 45 points, the result of 14 wins, three draws and two losses, in addition to 37 goals scored and only 11 conceded, guaranteeing the best defense in the competition. Meanwhile, Villans, who are having another promising Premier League campaign, remain in third place with 39 points, obtained from 12 wins, three draws and four losses, with 29 goals scored and 23 conceded.

How was the match? ⚽

The score was built entirely in the second half. Gabriel Magalhães opened the scoring after three minutes with a header following a corner taken by Bukayo Saka from the left. Martín Zubimendi extended the lead with a shot inside the area after a pass from Martin Ødegaard . The third goal was scored by Leandro Trossard with a beautiful shot from outside the area with his right foot.

The fourth and most exciting goal came from Jesus, who, just three minutes into the game, received a pass from Trossard and finished with his right foot inside the box, giving goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez no chance . It was the striker’s first goal after 364 days without scoring for Arsenal.

At 28 years old, Jesus had been sidelined for 11 months due to a ligament rupture suffered in January, and only returned in December of this year. During the celebration, Gabriel removed his shirt and revealed another underneath, emblazoned with the phrase “I belong to Jesus,” made world-famous for having been originally used by Kaká during his time at Milan in the 2000s.

There was still time for the visitors to pull one back through Ollie Watkins , who simply tapped the ball into the practically empty net from close range. Now, both teams will have a week’s rest and will only return to the pitch in 2026 for the FA Cup : Unai Emery ‘s team will face Tottenham on the 4th, at 2:45 PM (Brasilia time), while Mikel Arteta’s team will face Portsmouth the following day, at 11 AM.
