James Harden led the Los Angeles Clippers to victory over the Phoenix Suns on Monday night by 138 to 111. At home, the Los Angeles team achieved its 20th victory in the last 26 games and once again touched the teams that lead the West. Harden flirted with the triple-double by adding 19 points, ten assists and seven rebounds, while Paul George led the Clippers’ baskets with 25. On the other hand, Kevin Durant scored 30 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
Phoenix has a trio that was considered one of the best in the NBA with Kevin Durant, Devin Booker and Bradley Beal. However, until Monday’s game, they had only been on the court together for 88 minutes. With the loss to James Harden’s Clippers, the three participated in six games with the Suns, winning two and four losing.
The Clippers started the game ahead, but the Suns were on their heels. Then, Kawhi Leonard left it 13 to 8. Although the hosts were better, Phoenix tied with Durant at 16. Then, Grayson Allen hit a three and turned it over to the visitors. However, Russell Westbrook came off the bench to “ignite” the game for Los Angeles, which led again at 24 to 21. Booker equalized everything on the next possession and Durant increased it to 27 to 24. However, Westbrook and George turned it around once again to the owners of the house.
In the second quarter, James Harden scored six consecutive points for the Clippers, who beat the Suns 40 to 34. Durant returned to pressure and Phoenix led again, 48 to 44. Jusuf Nurkic left it 51 to 46. Then, the team of Los Angeles had a great run, making the score 13-2 and turning it into 59-53. At the end of the first half, the score was 71-63, still for the Clippers.
Then, after the break, the Suns even tried to pull over, but the Clippers didn’t allow it and the lead increased to 15, after a basket by Ivica Zubac. The situation became increasingly difficult for the visitors, while Los Angeles continued to score three-pointers. Little by little, the advantage increased. But the Suns still managed to come up with a reaction at the end of the third quarter, cutting it to ten.
Finally, in the fourth quarter, Durant cut it to seven and the Suns looked like they were going to turn it around. But it only seemed so. Soon after, the Clippers scored 16-0 in a partial, removing any chance of something different happening. The lead jumped to 24, when coach Frank Vogel gave up and removed his starters from the match, with around five minutes remaining. Then, in the final minutes, the Clippers just controlled the score to secure the triumph.
