The Catalan club wants to avoid paying a financial bonus to Bayern Munich.
Striker Robert Lewandowski revealed that he considered not scoring goals for Barcelona to avoid paying a financial bonus to Bayern Munich , stipulated in a contractual clause linked to the number of goals scored. Signed to be the team’s main finisher, the Polish player stated that the situation occurred during a period of financial difficulties for the Spanish club and that the request directly influenced his decision-making on the field.
In an interview with journalist Bogdan Rymanovski, the number 9 explained that Barcelona would have to pay Bayern an additional amount as individual goals were achieved. According to Lewandowski, the club closely monitored every expense during that period, and the bonus was not considered low. He stated that, from a personal point of view, the bonus would not alter his situation, which facilitated the acceptance of the request.
“The club would have to pay a bonus depending on the number of goals I scored. At that time, Barcelona needed every euro. The bonus wasn’t a small amount. For me personally, it wouldn’t change anything, so I had no problem with it,” Lewandowski stated.
The striker admitted, however, that the existence of the clause ended up interfering with his sporting performance. According to Lewandowski, the instruction stuck “in his head” and was enough to cause hesitation in at least one clear goal-scoring opportunity, something that, according to him, can be decisive at the highest level of football.
“It sticks in your mind, even if it’s just a small percentage, but it was enough for me to hesitate once about whether I should score a goal or not. Sometimes, those 5% or even 3% decide whether you win or not,” he concluded.

Lewandowski’s future at Barcelona
Lewandowski arrived at Barcelona in 2022 and has since scored 109 goals for the club. The striker has a contract with the Catalan team until June 2026. Although there have been talks about a possible renewal, the player’s future at the club remains uncertain.
