The team from the nearby city of Frankfurt played a comfortable game, with a four-goal lead, thanks to successive goals from Matthias Bader (4 minutes), Tim Skarke (25′), Marvin Mehlem (50′), and Tobias Kempe (62′, from the penalty spot).
Olivier Deman (70′) and Milos Veljkovic (78′) made up for the defeat of Werder Bremen, who failed to turn things around in the final moments.
Darmstadt moved up to 15th place with four points and moved out of the red zone. Werder, with six points, is in twelfth place.
“We defended victory tooth and nail. We are happy,” Darmstadt coach Torsten Lieberknecht told DAZN.
