Darmstadt earns first win since return to Bundesliga

Darmstadt, who returned to the German top flight after an absence of more than three decades, added their first win in the 2023/24 Bundesliga by beating Werder Bremen 4-2 on Sunday in Round 6.

The team from the nearby city of Frankfurt played a comfortable game, with a four-goal lead, thanks to successive goals from Matthias Bader (4 minutes), Tim Skarke (25′), Marvin Mehlem (50′), and Tobias Kempe (62′, from the penalty spot).

Olivier Deman (70′) and Milos Veljkovic (78′) made up for the defeat of Werder Bremen, who failed to turn things around in the final moments.

Darmstadt moved up to 15th place with four points and moved out of the red zone. Werder, with six points, is in twelfth place.

“We defended victory tooth and nailWe are happy,” Darmstadt coach Torsten Lieberknecht told DAZN.
