Gymnastics: Biles returns as queen and with legendary jump from the world championships
Simone Biles returned and did so as a queen at the World Artistic Gymnastics championships in Antwerp.
The American champion, after withdrawing from the Tokyo Games due to a psychological block, lit up the qualifiers of the rainbow tournament in the city where she won her first world medals: and she did so with a legendary jump, performing Yurchenko’s double carp, an exercise that until now had only been performed by men, and which now bears the name of the 26-year-old gymnast, a four-time Olympic champion, to be the only woman capable of performing it.
The jump had an incredible score of 15,266, for a total of 58,865 points at the end of the four sets.
“She made it! That’s all I can say,” exulted his coach, Frenchman Laurent Landi.
“I hope people realize that this may be the only time in their lives they see a jump like this by a gymnast.”
