Preview Chaves-Gil Vicente: Flavienses tired of carrying the red lantern

Transmontanos and Gilistas won the last games; They are teams that have scored a lot of goals, especially in the second half

At the beginning of this round of the League, the 8th, Chaves shows signs of being tired of carrying the red lantern, as a result of only four points won (one win, one draw, and five defeats). Shaken by the last two rounds, under the technical command of Moreno (a draw and a win), they seek to continue the momentum and beat a Gil Vicente that comfortably occupies the 9th place, with nine points (three wins and four losses).

And looking at what is the calendar of this round, the Trás-os-Montes are keeping an eye on the difficulty of Estoril, a team that occupies the place above in the league table, with the same four points, that hosts the defending champion, Benfica – six wins and one defeat, in the opening round, at Bessa, against Boavista (2-3), favorite to win the three points. But, beware, that Gil Vicente is a tough nut to crack and, for sure, goes to Chaves with the clear objective of transposing the theoretical favoritism – evaluating the position in the league table – to practice, and take possession of the three points in dispute.

As far as the history of meetings is concerned, in the League, there are 14 games between Flavienses and gilistas, with six wins for the Barcelos team and four for those from Chaves, and four times there was a draw, a result recorded in the last meeting, on April 10 of this year, referring to the 27th round of the 2022/2023 season.

It should be noted that the game will take place at the Estádio Municipal Eng.º Manuel Branco Teixeira, in Chaves, with a capacity of 8,400 seats, and the starting whistle will be given, at 15:30 pm, by the referee João Gonçalves (AF Porto), assisted by João Bessa Silva and Ângelo Carneiro. The 4th referee is André Neto and in the VAR will be Hélder Carvalho and Pedro Martins is AVAR.

After

the epic comeback at home to E. Amadora, in Moreno’s debut as coach of the Flavienses, in which they recovered from a two-goal deficit to add a point (2-2), the first victory of the season came in the last round, in the visit to Arouca (0-2). It cannot be said that there is not yet Moreno’s stamp on the team, since, contrary to what had happened, Chaves has already scored in the two games played under the command of the new technical team. What’s more, there are four consecutive games that they score, so it is expected that Gil’s nets can come to swing, especially in the second half, when, according to statistics, Chaves usually scores. On the other hand, the Trás-os-Montes have the most beaten defense, having conceded goals in the seven rounds already played, 19 in total.

System: 3x4x3

Probable eleven: Hugo Souza; Bruno Rodrigues, Steven Vitória, and Ygor Nogueira; João Correia, Guima, Nwakali and Bruno Langa; Hector Hernández, Jô Batista and Leandro Sanca.

Injured: Habib Sylla, Rúben Lameiras and Cafú Phete.
In doubt: Jô Batista.

Figure: João Correia
Due to the performance of the last round, the name of the 27-year-old Cape Verdean deserves to be here in these lines. The right-back, who rises to the three-man line at the back, has been an ace of Trump. His good physical condition has allowed him to run around in the corridor he occupies, creating imbalances and being preponderant in the transition from defense to attack and he has already scored two goals. In the last three rounds, he played the full 90 minutes, before having been a substitute on two occasions.

João Correia is in his fifth season with Chaves and has already made more than 100 appearances

Moreno Teixeira (Chaves coach): “We are aware, responsible and not at all deluded by last week’s victory. I think this is the first step. We’re a little bit better today than we were last week because we’ve narrowed the points gap a little bit with other teams, but we’re still last. And it is with this pressure, because, at this level, there will have to be some pressure, that we have prepared the game and that tomorrow we will face Gil Vicente. It will be a difficult game, against an opponent who has an extremely competent technical team, who left a very positive mark here at Chaves, and who has an interesting working group. But we, identified with that, want to continue to score points and, if possible, move up a few places in the standings.”

Gil Vicente

In the first seven rounds, Gil Vicente has already faced two of the favorites for the title, namely Benfica and FC Porto, having lost both games, by 2-3 and 1-2, respectively, but giving a good response. In the other games they lost to Vizela (0-1) and V. Guimarães (1-2), having won against Casa Pia (2-0) and thrashed Portimonense (5-0) and Estoril (5-3), results that place the gilistas in the European top. Gil Vicente is the second team in the top seven leagues of the UEFA rankings with the most home goals (14), beaten only by Feyenoord with 15 goals. In fact, it should be said that Barcelos has the third-best attack of the season, surpassed by Boavista SC Braga (18 goals), and Benfica (17). It is, therefore, expected that the goal of the Flavienses will be targeted, with the striker Depú being the team’s top scorer, with three goals.

In Barcelos, the good atmosphere and the healthy coexistence with the population reign, as evidenced in the last training session before the trip to Chaves, in which members of the Social, Cultural and Recreational Association of Alheira were present in the stands, following the celebrations of the World Day of the Elderly.

Members of the Social, Cultural, and Recreational Association of Alheira

System: 4x2x3x1

Probable eleven: Andrew Silva; Zé Carlos, Gabriel Pereira, Rúben Fernandes, and Leonardo Buta; Maxime Dominguez and Pedro Tiba; Murilo Souza, Martim Neto, and Félix Correira; Depú.

Injured: Alipour.

The 23-year-old
The Angolan striker has been on a hot foot, scoring in three consecutive games. Opportunistic when it comes to shooting at the net, he has been a key player in the attack. Félix Correia’s name may also appear here. The winger has provided two assists in five games and has already equalled his tally in every game last season at Marítimo. Two names that promise to be talked about.

Depú has three goals this season

Vítor Campelos (Gil Vicente coach): «Chaves had some changes, we also had them and, at the beginning of the championship, we played with teams that already had the process consolidated. At the beginning of the season, this brings advantages. If we had played earlier against Chaves we could have had more advantage because, with each passing week, the players are more connected, but this is the moment. We have to put into practice what we have worked on and we want to play a good game and, if possible, get the three points. With Casa Pia, we played 30/35 minutes at a high level, but each game has its own story. Although Chaves plays in the same system, it can have different nuances and we are aware of that.”
