A key figure at Besiktas, the club he has represented the most times during his career (227 games compared to 225 for FC Porto), Ricardo Quaresma addressed, in an interview with Record Gaming , the current turbulent moment that the Istanbul club is going through, both in the league and in European competitions, after failing to qualify for the Europa League and the Conference League at the start of the season.
“Honestly, I’m sad because Besiktas is far from achieving its goal – fighting for titles. It’s a team that doesn’t appeal to me, neither in terms of squad nor the way it plays. Honestly, I think they should be more careful in their recruitment, both of players and coaches,” the former winger began by saying.
Saddened by the performance of one of the clubs he holds dear, Mustang wants to see ‘his’ Besiktas fighting shoulder to shoulder with Galatasaray next season. “As a fan, of course I’m sad. I’m sad to see my club going through this phase. But we know how football is, I hope that next season they will be at a level to compete with Galatasaray. It’s not that Fenerbahçe is much better than Besiktas – because it isn’t – but at the moment I see a very strong ‘Gala’ for the Turkish League. In terms of squad and coach, I, as a fan, am not at all satisfied.”
In total, Ricardo Quaresma represented Besiktas for six seasons—two during his first spell (2010/11 and 2011/12) and four during his second period wearing the Black Eagles’ jersey (2015/16, 2016/17, 2017/18 and 2018/19). In the fans’ memories, besides the countless magical moments Ricardo Quaresma provided, are the back-to-back league titles (2015/16 and 2016/17) and the Turkish Cup (2010/11), as well as the 37 goals he scored and the 43 assists he provided.
