The appeal was successful. Lechia Gdańsk with a license for PKO Ekstraklasa

The Appeal Committee for Club Licenses of the Polish Football Association positively considered Lechia Gdańsk’s appeal and decided to grant the club a license to play in PKO Ekstraklasa in the 2023/24 season with financial supervision.

Lechia Gdańsk is the leader of Fortuna I league, and after the last victory against Wisła Kraków, Szymon Grabowski’s team is already certain of promotion to the PKO Ekstraklasa. However, in the first period, the PZPN Club License Committee did not grant the club a license to play in the Polish elite in the 2024/25 season due to failure to meet criterion F.04 of the License Manual.

– Despite our best efforts, we have not found any solution to the three arrears that our club still owes to players Maloca and Stec, as well as to the Wolak Management agency for the commission due in connection with goalkeeper Zlatan Alomerovic. Our club will settle all debts in accordance with the request of the Polish Football Association within 5 days of submitting the appeal, said Lechia president Paolo Urfer after the decision not to grant the license within the first deadline.

As he said, so he did. A day later, the club made all payments required by the Polish Football Association. In Gdańsk, all that was left to do was wait for the final verdict. This one came on Friday afternoon. The Appeal Committee for Club Licenses of the Polish Football Association granted Lechia a license to play in the Ekstraklasa.

“The Commission decided to grant the Lechia Gdańsk club a license authorizing the club to participate in the PKO Ekstraklasa games in the 2024/2025 season with financial supervision and to impose a control measure on the club in the form of an obligation to pay PLN 60,000 for violating criterion F.04 of the License Manual.”

As emphasized by the Polish Football Association, the decision is final.

Lechia remained calm all the time. Everyone at the club was convinced that the cancellation would have the desired effect, and ultimately it did.

On Sunday, the Gdańsk team will play the Tricity derby against Arka Gdynia (8.30 p.m.). The victory will give Lechia first place at the end of the season in Fortuna I league with a round before the end.
