Another beautiful sports complex has opened in China! Situated in a stunning location, the Greater Bay Area Sports Centre is incredibly versatile. At its center is a 60,000-seat stadium that can be used for football matches, athletics competitions, and concerts. A sports hall with a 20,000-seat grandstand and a 50-meter swimming pool with a diving tower have also been built.

China’s sports infrastructure continues to expand! The stunning Greater Bay Area Sports Centre will open next month. The buildings, located on a 70-hectare site, were designed by Zaha Hadid Architects. Construction began in August 2023, just over two years ago.

The completion of the works was announced by the industry portal stadiony.net . The complex is a key investment in the Guangzhou-Hong Kong-Macau metropolitan area, also known as the Greater Bay Area. The charming sports center is situated on the Pearl River. The plan calls for the construction of a modern urban and business district in the area, which is expected to house 100 million people.

The Chinese have thought of everything. Due to its location on the Pearl River, it’s crucial that the facility can withstand potential flooding. The complex also boasts excellent transport links, with bridges and subway stations built. The opening is scheduled for December 5th. A series of concerts will take place that day, tickets for which are already sold out.

What makes up the Greater Bay Area Sports Centre? The main facility is a 60,000-seat, multi-purpose stadium. It can host major athletics competitions or concerts by world music stars. The arena’s structure is incredibly distinctive thanks to its unusual grandstand arrangement.

An Olympic-sized swimming pool with a diving board and stands for 4,000 spectators was also built nearby. The complex includes a sports hall that can accommodate 20,000 fans. Facilities were also provided. Training fields and student dormitories for athletes were also built in the immediate vicinity. The complex was designed to meet both the everyday needs of residents and for use during major events.

And how much did it cost to build such a marvel? According to stadiony.net, the entire complex was built for eight billion yuan. That translates to—a trifle!—4 billion 130 million złoty. These things aren’t cheap…
