Piotr Zieliński’s situation at Inter is starting to improve. The Pole is increasingly getting opportunities to start, and he even scored a goal in Wednesday’s match against Atletico Madrid. However, the 31-year-old was quickly substituted in the second half. Coach Cristian Chivu explained why. Unfortunately, it was due to health issues.
Piotr Zieliński joined Inter in the summer of 2024. His first season at his new club was successful in terms of team results, as the Milan team reached the Champions League final , but the Pole himself was dissatisfied with his performances. Largely due to injuries, he played little, and when he did, it was less than impressive. It’s no wonder, then, that there has been much talk of his departure from Inter recently.
Inter’s coach spoke out about Zieliński. It’s disturbing.
Recently, however, Zieliński has been healthy, and his situation at Inter is definitely starting to improve. The Pole was in the starting lineup in matches against Kairat Almaty and Royale Union SG, for example, and on Wednesday, he got his chance to play in the blockbuster match against Atletico Madrid . It was his goal in the 54th minute that allowed the Italian runners-up to equalize. The Pole played a superb one-two with Ange-Yoan Bonny and beat Juan Musso with a powerful shot.
Shortly afterward, the two Inter players were no longer on the pitch. Both were substituted in the 65th minute. What was the reason? Coach Cristian Chivu spoke after the match against Atletico, which the Italians ultimately lost 1-2:
“Zieliński had a minor thigh problem and told me he could play another five minutes. I decided to take Bonny off because we needed fresh legs. We needed Pio and Marcus. The former was supposed to hold the ball up and push the team forward, while the latter would provide depth with his speed and ability to create opportunities on counterattacks, which we should execute better,” the Romanian concluded, as quoted by Inter’s official website.
It is currently unknown whether Zieliński will need to be sidelined. Inter’s next match is on Sunday, November 30th. The Polish team’s opponent will be Pisa.
