Atlético-MG reaches an agreement with Bahia and renews Vitor Hugo’s contract.

The 34-year-old defender played for Atlético Mineiro on loan last season.

Atlético-MG has reached an agreement with Bahia for the permanent transfer of defender Vitor Hugo. The 34-year-old player was on loan to Galo (Atlético-MG) throughout last season, but the Minas Gerais team has not yet revealed whether the renewal is a new loan or a permanent purchase. It’s worth remembering that he has a contract with Tricolor (Bahia) until the end of this year.

Atlético also stated in a press release that the defender will report back to Cidade do Galo (the club’s training complex) in the coming days.

Vitor Hugo played 34 times for Atlético-MG in 2025 and scored four goals. He even earned a place in the team and became a starter in the final stretch of the season due to a serious Achilles tendon injury suffered by Lyanco, his teammate in the same position.

Having started his career at Santo André, Vitor Hugo played for clubs such as América-MG and Ituano before arriving at Palmeiras in 2015, where he began to stand out on the national scene after winning the Copa do Brasil. His good performance at Palmeiras until 2017 led him to Fiorentina in Italy, where he played until returning to the São Paulo club in 2019. Before being signed by Bahia in 2023, the defender also spent three seasons at Trabzonspor in Turkey.

Vitor Hugo’s time at Bahia

Signed permanently by Tricolor in April 2023, the team’s first year under the City Group’s management, Vitor Hugo began to gain prominence in the final stretch of that year’s Brasileirão, already under the command of Rogério Ceni, and totaled 29 games wearing the blue, red, and white jersey. However, the player did not have continuity in the team, ended up being quickly loaned to Panathinaikos in Greece, and had difficulties upon returning in 2024, which made his transfer to Atlético-MG possible.
