Colégio de Gaia loses in the qualification of the European Women’s Handball Cup

Colégio de Gaia lost today 27-23 to IBV of Iceland, in the first leg of the second round of access to the European Women’s Handball Cup.

 

The Portuguese were on top almost the entire game but eventually conceded in the final stretch of the match, in which the Icelanders recovered a disadvantage of several goals to go in front.

At halftime, the gaienses won 14-10, but ended up losing, despite the efforts of Diana Oliveira, with eight goals scored. Birna Haraldsdóttir made the difference, with 13 goals scored.

The two teams meet again in the second leg on Saturday, as Friday’s game was behind schedule for the normal first leg, on a day when Benfica visit Austria’s Ferlach after a comfortable 41-29.
