Mateo Cassierra, the striker on Atlético-MG’s radar, who is he?

Atlético are in negotiations to sign striker Mateo Cassierra, currently at Zenit, Russia. The information was released by the Russian press this Thursday (16), indicating that the club is closely monitoring the player’s situation and evaluating the terms to advance in the negotiation.

Cassierra did not participate in Zenit’s training session on Thursday, the first after returning from vacation. When questioned about the striker’s absence, coach Sergey Semak confirmed that the club had received offers for the 28-year-old player.

Mateo Cassierra is a 1.86m tall Colombian striker who came up through the youth ranks of Deportivo Cali in Colombia. After standing out in local football, he was transferred to Ajax in the Netherlands in 2016. Subsequently, he played for Groningen (Netherlands), Racing (Argentina), B SAD (Portugal) and FK Sochi (Russia), before arriving at Zenit, the club he currently plays for.

Throughout his professional career, Cassierra has amassed impressive numbers. The striker has scored 129 goals in 370 matches played, in addition to being called up twice for the Colombian national team.
