Official: Rooney is Birmingham’s new manager
“Birmingham City Football Club is pleased to announce the appointment of Wayne Rooney as manager on a three-and-a-half-year contract,” the club said in a statement, filling the vacancy following the sacking of John Eustace.
Rooney, who was an iconic England and Manchester United player, arrives at Birmingham after having coached Derby County and, more recently, American side DC United.
“It’s very clear what the plan is and we’re committed to the club’s ambition,” he said.
Birmingham City last finished in the top flight in 2010/11 and are currently sixth after 11 games, still in the play-off zone, 12 points behind leaders Leicester and 10 behind Ipswich, the top two.
