Iga Świątek has completed her first full season of working with Wim Fissette. The Belgian could leave his mark on the Polish player, who in recent years has been associated with Tomasz Wiktorowski. “Everything Fissette mentioned has actually appeared in her game. There are some new things,” notes Eurosport commentator Karol Stopa.

Karol Stopa spoke with “Fakt” after the WTA season concluded. The Eurosport commentator pointed out directly what Fissette has changed in the Polish player’s game in 2025.

“Wim has definitely tried to make a few adjustments. You can see it in her serve, for example. Her movement is slightly shortened. You can also see that from time to time he encourages her to move forward more boldly, to cut the ball. Everything he mentioned has actually appeared in her game, so there are some new things. However, there’s no revolution here. If anyone expected it, they must have been surprised. I’m not, because changing a player from scratch would be completely idiotic and would end disastrously,” he said.

“Iga is more daring in her entry into the court, in her attempts to volley. I wouldn’t say it’s a permanent element of her style, but it’s clear she’s stopped being afraid of certain decisions and is able to choose bolder solutions. This is small but noticeable progress,” adds Stopa.

Is there anything Świątek still needs to improve on? “I still don’t see what I consider crucial: Iga still can’t really change her game . This was clearly evident during the WTA Finals. She can’t adapt her tactics to her opponent’s actions, instead assuming that if she hits harder, it will be enough. And it’s increasingly clear that’s no longer enough,” explains the expert.

During the interview, Stopa was asked what the next Świątek season might look like. 

“On the one hand, we can assume that Iga will continue this course of action. It’s a way to prove her superiority over her rivals, because her greatest asset is her incredible movement on the court, not her striking technique. As long as nothing goes wrong with her musculoskeletal system, it will be difficult to stop her. On the other hand, however, the process of tiring more quickly will continue. Last year, she kept saying she was tired. This year, we’ve heard less about it, but as she gets deeper into the season, she’ll return. The physical and mental strain is enormous,” Stopa concluded.
