Back in charge of Internacional de Porto Alegre, Abel Braga made a controversial comment referring to one of the team’s kits, which is in shades of pink.
During his introductory press conference as the new coach of Colorado , Abel Braga shared a conversation he had with the sporting director, Andrés D’Alessandro: “I don’t want my damn team training in pink jerseys, it looks like a team of faggots [a derogatory term for homosexuals].”
The comment was picked up by a journalist moments later, during the presentation, with the experienced 73-year-old coach explaining: “I needed to relax my group, I want the players to be strong.”
Elected as Ramón Díaz’s replacement, Abel Braga, who coached Rio Ave, Famalicão, Belenenses and Vitória de Setúbal in Portugal between the 1980s and 1990s, will manage Internacional of Porto Alegre in the last two rounds of the Brasileirão, at no cost, seeking to save the team from relegation.
Inter heads into the final games below the relegation zone, with 41 points, the same as the first team in the safety zone, Santos. Until the end of the championship, they visit São Paulo and host Bragantino.
