Find out the reason for John Kennedy’s controversial celebration after Fluminense’s victory.
The striker responded to the insults he heard during the warm-up.
Fluminense’s comeback victory, 3-2, over Santos at Vila Belmiro , was decided by John Kennedy, but his goal in the 40th minute of the second half had a special flavor. By rising higher than the Santos defense and finding the back of the net, the striker not only secured the three points for Fluminense, but also responded, in practice, to the “hostile environment” he faced throughout the afternoon.
While warming up, the number 9 was frequently subjected to shouts of “pothead” from the Santos fans. The atmosphere of provocation followed the player throughout the match, until he was brought on by Luis Zubeldía, 12 minutes into the second half, to change the course of the game.
When the game’s fate was uncertain, it was up to John Kennedy to decide. After a precise cross from Guga, the “Kid from Xerém” rose higher than the opposing defense and secured the Tricolor’s comeback. In celebration, the striker was emphatic: with two fingers pressed to his lips, he made a clear gesture responding to the provocation from the home crowd, returning the outburst immediately after the goal that silenced part of the stadium.
With this result, Fluminense reached 23 points in 12 matches and is in third place. The team has accumulated seven wins, two draws and three losses, with 21 goals scored and 15 conceded, achieving a positive goal difference of six. The team remains firmly among the top teams and continues in direct contention for the highest positions in the championship.
